please read the questions/answers below before emailing me with a question, because it's most likely covered here. but, as always, feel free to email me with any other questions, concerns, or IDEAS! i would love to hear from you. :) my email is: writerin@hotmail.com

1. why should i credit you when all you've done is cropped other people's art?
2. do the artists know that you use their work for making icons?
3. where do you find these art sites?
4. what program do you use to make your icons?

1. why should i credit you when all you've done is cropped other people's art?

the main reason i ask for credit is so that others may see where you found your icon. that way they can find this community and hopefully join and find more icons they like. most importantly, if someone sees your icon and the original artist isn't credited, hopefully they can visit heartdivide where i ALWAYS credit the original artist.

i also spend quite a lot of time browsing art sites and making the icons. i often use subtle gradients and effects to make the icons more appealing. i post on a regular basis, so when you think about all of the icons, i have spent quite a lot of time on them.

it's mostly about respect. it doesn't take a lot of time or effort to credit, and it's just courteous.

2. do the artists know that you use their work for making icons?

most of the artists do not know that i use their work. if i asked each one individually it would take forever, but i've found that most artists don't mind their work being used if it is credited. i try not to change them very much, as well. if any artist were to contact me about their work being used, i would take appropriate actions to make sure they're comfortable with everything. :)

if i didn't make icons from artwork, someone else would, and at least here the artist is credited, most often with a link to his or her website. a thumbnail-sized square for personal use, if credited, should promote each artist's work and website. everyone, please DO credit the original artists because it is their work that makes this community what it is. ♥

3. where do you find these art sites?

i usually find new artists by visiting links that other artists recommend. i also have a few key sites i like to visit which feature many artists. alt-photos.com and fecalface.com are two examples of this. and lastly, i am a magazine-whore and love to go to the bookstore, grab a starbucks and sit down with art magazines. i take a pad of paper with me and jot down names and/or websites that i'd like to check out. i find some of my most favourite artists this way. :)

LAST BUT NOT LEAST: recommendations! i am always looking for new artists, so if you have a favourite one, post it in a comment or email me at writerin@hotmail.com. if i make icons from your recommendation, i'll make custom ones just for you, too.

4. what program do you use to make your icons?

i use Paint Shop Pro 8 :)

please visit the credits/resources post for more information.

I was denied membership when I just applied and judging from these FAQs it is because I do not have much in the way of identification on my userinfo. That's because I just started this journal, but I was a member of this community on a previous account.

I'm just wondering what information you need for me to be a member. This is, hands down, my favorite icon community of all time and I'd like to be allowed back in. Thanks.
